Individual artists, groups and organizations from Greece and abroad can submit their proposals here by April 12th, 2021, at 23:59 (EST)

The deadline for submitting artistic proposals to the first international open call of the 2023 ELEVSIS European Capital of Culture is extended to April 12th, 2021, at 23:59 (EST). The open call is addressed to independent artists, artistic groups, institutions and organizations from Greece and abroad and concerns new projects and actions that will take place in the city of Elefsina in 2022 and 2023, in the context of hosting the title of European Capital of Culture (EcoC). The selected proposals will co-shape the 2023 ELEVSIS final programme “MYSTERIES OF TRANSITION”, under the general artistic direction of the internationally acclaimed Greek director Michail Marmarinos

Elefsina is the fourth European Capital of Culture hosted in Greece. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of the city, 2023 ELEVSIS forms a comprehensive artistic, research and educational program, the MYSTERIES of TRANSITION, moving in four strategic areas: Culture, People, City and Environment. Accordingly there are three distinct and interconnected central themes of the programme, People / Society, Environment and Labor, reflecting the unique features of the city and the contemporary challenges both Elevsis and Europe are facing.

The proposed projects / actions may relate to one or more thematic axes, one or more areas of art and creation. Indicatively, the following categories are mentioned, but without them being a strictly restrictive field:

Music, Dance, Literature, Writing, Theater, Performance Art, Visual Arts, Installation Art, Digital Arts, Cinema/Film/Documentary, Photography, Games, Comic Art, Design, Digital Fabrication, Cultural Policy, Networking Events (Meetings, Conferences), Capacity Building Programmes, Educational Programmes, Community Engagement Projects, Artistic and Research programs for the public space and the environment, Interdisciplinary projects, etc.

The proposals submitted by the interested parties in the framework of this Open Call, shall be evaluated by the General Artistic Directorate of 2023 ELEVSIS, according to the guidelines of the European Union on the European Capitals of Culture and the strategic objectives, artistic vision and themes set out by 2023 ELEVSIS. The results will be announced in June 2021.

Before writing and submitting proposals, it is necessary to study the Artistic Vision and the Strategic Objectives of 2023 ELEVSIS, as described in detail here:
